We want to help you make the best possible choice for you and your child.

What is an Adoption Plan?

If you are new to the adoption world, you may wonder what an adoption plan is what it entails. Put simply, an adoption plan is an outline of your expectations and preferences for the adoption process. It is a roadmap to help you reduce your stress and know what is ahead of you. So, if you have any wants or requirements for either you or your child, make sure to include them in your adoption plan.

What does an Adoption Plan Cover?

Your adoption plan can cover the following pieces of the adoption process:

  • The type of adoption you want
  • The adoptive parents you want for your child
  • What you want your hospital experience to look like
  • Any post-placement support you need

Even though you’ll go through our standard adoption process with our adoption agency, the specific details you put into your adoption plan in Missouri are completely up to you. So, think about the kind of life you’d like to provide for your child. Is there anything you had or didn’t have growing up that you’d like him or her to experience? How involved do you want to be with your child and the adoptive parents once the adoption has been finalized? Do you have any specific needs or requests for when you’re ready to give birth? All these details and more can help you create an adoption plan that’s best suited to you and your baby.

Is There More than One Adoption Plan?

This is a great question, although a more difficult one to answer. Our adoption agency only offers one adoption plan; however, there are no two adoption plans that will be alike. Why is this? No two adoption journeys are the same, just as no two birth mothers are the same. Each and every one of you has your own vision for how you want your adoption journey to go. Thus, what you include into your adoption plan will be just as unique as you and your personal circumstances are.

There is no right or wrong way to go about creating your adoption plan. So, you don’t need to worry about whether or not you’re doing things correctly. If your ideas don’t match someone else’s. That’s the beauty of an adoption plan. It isn’t, and shouldn’t be, similar to anyone else but you. Again, there is no right or wrong way. Only the way that’s best for you and your baby.
